The centre is good and clean. Staffs are well spoken and provide good customer service but I would not recommend Dr. Chuah Kay Leong even he is an experienced doctor as his bedside manner is very poor! I had cataract surgery on one eye in ISEC two years ago. Now the membrane is thickening causing blurry vision. I went to Optimax Taman Tun for Consultation of Eye Membrane Thickening Removal by laser (YAG laser capsulotomy).
Dr. Chuah dilated my pupils for examination by shining very bright light in for about perhaps a minute. This extremely bright light was like piercing through my eyes after few seconds that I could not help but blinked my eyes for a few times while he was shining the light in. After approximately 4 times of telling me not to ‘squeeze’ my eyes, Dr. Chuah started to show impatience by saying impolitely that I did not do what I was told and he could not have a good look on my retina. I tried to explain that the bright light was causing me great discomfort and pain. Without wanting to hear it, he kept saying ‘NO NO NO you did it on purpose! You can control it but you did not! ‘. Gosh! Isn’t this natural reflex which some people have?! He then said that he could not see my retina well because I kept squeezing my eye so I may require some other eye treatments after the laser is done if I were to do the laser treatment with him.
I know myself well. I know my eyes can adapt to the light better if I do the examination again. So I requested to examine again. Reluctantly, Dr. Chuah Kay Leong performed the examination one more time. Once finished, he said rudely that I was like totally two different person that I was FOOLING AROUND the first time and I was doing ‘NONSENSE’ and I am the type of person who need SCOLDINGS to do better …YES! These were all indeed said by a doctor, to my horror!!! I said politely but firmly to him that I did not do any nonsense then he rephrased his sentence to ‘you did not do well! ‘ Unexpectedly, Dr. Chuah Kay Leong even said he had seen more than 40 patients on that particular day (it was 1pm) and I was the first patient whom he had to RAISE HIS VOICE! All because I ‘squeezed’ my eyes due to natural reflex !? A low EQ doctor is not a trustworthy doctor! How do you think if he is having a bad day on your eye surgery day?
Dr Chuah Kay Leong even said if I squeeze my eyes during the laser treatment, beam may hit the center of my eye and I could have permanent impaired vision! Upon this information, immediately I asked if any local anesthetic drops will put to numb my eyes but he said NO. I am only in my mid 30’s, thinking about my eye situation that Dr. Chuah said I may have to do YAG not only once in my lifetime due to my age in addition to my worry of having permanent impaired vision as a result of beam may hit accidentally to the center of my eye because of my sensitiveness to light, I burst into tears once out of the clinic!
I have waited nearly 3 hours for my turn patiently even prior appointment had been made. I have been wanted to do this laser treatment so badly because it affects my vision blurry and Dr. Chuah Kay Leong said those totally unacceptable words because he had many more appointments waiting in the clinic! He even said if he has to repeat the examination twice on every patient, his day will be RUINED! According to the nurse, 5 appointments are made within every 30 minutes.
This is the third doctor whom I consulted in town to seek for third opinion before the laser treatment and this is also the very first unpleasant encounter with any eye specialist or even any doctor in Malaysia and Singapore! I am actually running companies with multi-million turnover. Do you think I want to waste any time on purpose? Ironically, I have wasted my half a day!
